How to use the spacer for asthma

Debbie Rigby, a consultant pharmacist and member of the Lung Foundation Australia's Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Pharmacy Committee, explains the proper use of the spacer with your pMDI or puffer. A pMDI, or pressurized Metered-Dose Inhaler, is often called a "puffer" because it delivers medication in a quick, pressurized burst, similar to how a pufferfish expels water. This action helps to ensure the medication is aerosolized and reaches deep into the lungs. The term "puffer" is a more colloquial way to describe this type of inhaler.
